Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Medical training certificate with equivalent medical experience#or#Associates Degree preferred Responsibilities: Transports specimens from inpatient surgical suites, outpatient surgical suites within the hospital building.# Disposes of specimens per regulatory agency requirements (OSHA, CAP, DNV) and department protocol using appropriate personal protective equipment. Verifies specimen accuracy against pathology requisitions, Resolves specimens and requisition discrepancies. Numbers and accessions according to Pathology and Laboratory protocols. Prepares specimens for transport to the histology laboratory.# Creates and maintains associated specimen logs and reports. Transcribes gross and microscopic descriptions.# Adds reportable markers and pathology charges. Assists on preparations for multidisciplinary clinics by gathering slides and reports. Prepares send'out specimens to include placing orders in Meditech when appropriate. Assists the pathologist with frozen section processing (cutting tissue, staining slides). Cleans and maintains the cryostat and frozen section space. Prepares and stains bone marrow slides. Files slides, requisitions and reports stored in Pathology.# Sends and retrieves items from offsite storage. Provides specimen containers with formalin for departments collecting specimens. Disposes of tissues and formalin following regulatory agency requirements.
